  School of Humanities

Let me welcome you to the homepage of the School of Humanities and wish you a successful academic year. I would like this year to be the time of triumph and special accomplishment for each of our students and the University on the whole. The School of Humanities is one of the first structural units of the University of Georgia. Hence, the progress of the University echoes in the advancement of the School. Likewise, the advancement of the School is that of the University. As for the accomplishments of the School of Humanities, they are obvious. One of them is the first influx of Bachelors who graduated from the School; the best alumni have been employed by the University. Some other achievements are: a modern center for the study of languages; the Centre for the Study of Caucasus and Black Sea Region (CBSR), with international scholars working in it; international conferences in the areas of conflict management and teaching languages; annual republican conferences organized by the school; field works of the School students done in Turkey and Georgia; European standards in teaching languages and student internships in Germany (The University of Münster), available not only for the students of Humanities, but anyone interested in participation; and exchange programs in Germany and Italy.

All the above-listed is the reality of the School of Humanities and the University of Georgia. The School of Humanities has already established some traditions. Here we should, first of all, mention modern principles in teaching humanities. This, and all the other traditions we have introduced, are aimed at educating a new generation that will be fully prepared to face the challenges of the modern world and have awareness in such areas as history, spiritual and material culture, and systems of values in Georgia and round the world. At the same time, we are convinced that the core values our students need to have are tolerance and respect for their own culture and the cultures of other nations.

The School of Humanities of the University of Georgia currently offers the following Bachelor’s degree programs: History, History of Art, English, German, Italian; higher professional programs: Guides, Translation Reference, Human Resource Management; Master’s degree programs: Cultural and Social Anthropology, History of Georgia. Our Master’s students are employed in international organizations, the Cultural Department of the City Hall, the National Museum; some of them are abroad participating in various exchange projects. The School of Humanities runs PhD programs, too. Our doctoral students work on modern PhD theses. The School cooperates with the University of Münster(Germany) and Rome(Italy). Upon the successful completion of the joint programs offered by the two universities. All the above-mentioned creates opportunities for You to get knowledge, skills and competencies that are up-to-date and meet the standards established in Western countries. The modern knowledge that our students gain are a guarantee of their future success. All the news related to the school, past or planned events and activities, and material describing students’ life will be regularly updated and placed on the School webpage. Therefore, we advise that you frequently visit the webpage of the School of Humanities and take an active part in the process of its development and perfection, because this webpage is for You and about You. I wish you to take the best advantage of this opportunity and be the best among the best.
