History
In November 2004 the Media Management Department was set up in the University of Georgia (by then named as School of Social Sciences), in the same year, within its frames the first students were enrolled in master program in Media Management. The following years the department has significantly enlarged and master program in Public Relations was added. In 2006 the name turned to be the School of Journalism and Miscommunications and first bachelors were enrolled. The year 2009 – for the school was year of radical changes, among the various changes one of the most important was the unification of School of Journalism and Miscommunications and school of International Relations under the name of School of Social Sciences. Quantity of bachelor and master programs have increased in this School of Social Sciences, bachelor program in Public Relations and master program in Advertisement were added.
Goals
The main goal of the School is to provide the highest standards of professionalism in Georgia as well as in region, by means of implementing modern educational programs. The school aims to create all the necessary conditions for studying and scientific activities, to take part and implement local and international projects, namely:
- Provide the studying process with modern, high professional academic staff, practical works and modern technologies.
- Permanent participation of local and international experts in order to improve the studying process and increase the quality of scientific works.
- Determine the priorities and implementation indicators for studying process and scientific research;
- Study the demands of labor market and determine the professional criteria in accordance;
- Prepare high professional and competitiveness researchers;
- Prepare interdisciplinary and international bachelor, master and doctoral programs;
Mission
The School of Social Sciences aims to bring up the high quality professional researchers in the field of Public Relations, Advertisement, International Relations, Journalism, Psychology and Political Sciences, which will be equipped with modern knowledge, will have creative thinking ability, skills to conduct the research in relevant field and will growth professionally. Students, whose scientific and/or professional activities will be intended for the prosperity of own nation and humanity in general, which will represent the new generation of honest, patriot and high quality professionals in Georgia.
Achievements
The School of Social Science takes active part in various local and international activities. Recently, the school has taken part in the projects financed by various international organizations. For example, project of UNICEF, within its frames the studying course has been worked out with the title: ''Rights of Children and Journalistic Practice''; Moldavian and Gipsy Ethnic Groups in Georgia – problems of civil integration. The project, financially supported by OSGF, implied the researches to be conducted among marginal ethnic groups, project of USAID – to publish a book about the tolerance and civil integration ''The Evaluation of Tolerance and Civil Integration in Georgia''; IFES (International Fund of Election System) the program of civil education (the structure of bachelor course). The School of Social Sciences together with TV studio ''Dghe'' (a day) prepares TV programs for various local TV channels, also, journal ''Observer'', prepared by students gets issued regularly once in a month.

The professors and students of the school of Social Silences are regularly presented at the international conferences and studying programs.
Contacts
Since the school of Social Sciences has been formed, it has established professional communication with multiple organizations and/or institutions. The school has signed the cooperation memorandum with public and private departments; within the frames of this memorandum the school conducts scientific conferences, seminars, professional master classes and trainings. On the base of this cooperation students get probations and employed.
