From July 13–17, the Univeresity of Georgian hosted "Quantum Technologies Week" for pre-registered high school students (Grades 9–12), offering both theoretical and hands-on training on the fundamentals of quantum technologies.
Throughout the week, participants attended lectures delivered by Georgian University professors Kakhaber Tavzarashvili, Irakli Noselidze, and Nana Dikhaminjia, as well as Mikheil Tsiklauri, Tech Lead at Apple. The speakers introduced students to quantum computing, quantum communication, quantum algorithms, and the transformative opportunities these technologies present for the future of science and innovation.
The practical component of the program was led by Giorgi Tsiklauri, a student at UC Davis, and Alexandre Tsiklauri, a student at Mountain View High School. They conducted an IBM Qiskit workshop, during which participants designed and tested simple quantum algorithms, explored the fundamentals of quantum programming, and experienced how theoretical concepts are translated into real-world software applications.
"We can confidently say that quantum computing and, of course, artificial intelligence have already become part of our everyday lives. Georgian University's initiative serves as a first step on the scientific journey for students interested in these fields. As a university, our goal is to remain at the forefront of emerging technologies and to support young people by helping them understand what these professions involve, the opportunities and challenges they present, and, most importantly, where they can gain in-depth knowledge through practical activities like these. Today, many people talk about artificial intelligence, but what truly matters is a deep understanding of the subject rather than a superficial impression. That is why we are committed to organizing similar activities throughout the year," said Kakhaber Tavzarashvili, Professor at the University of Georgia and Director of the Center for Quantum Computing and Artificial Intelligence.
Quantum Technologies Week was organized by the Center for Quantum Technologies and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Georgia in partnership with the Quantum Computing Association.
