On May 30, the 2026 “Sarkmeli” Media Festival was held for the third time at the Zviad Gamsakhurdia Presidential Center. The event brought together young participants from public schools across Georgia and showcased student-created newspapers, magazines, wall newspapers, comics, video stories, and educational social media platforms.
Winners were announced in several categories, including print media, educational blogs and social media pages, television reports, AI-generated photo stories, and comics.
As in previous years, the University of Georgia was a partner of the festival and selected its own special award recipients. Maya Ghubeladze, the University of Georgia’s Regional Representative in Zugdidi, awarded Anastasia Mikava and Sopio Mikava, students of Chkhoria Public School in Zugdidi Municipality, for the Best Comic nomination. The winners received symbolic gifts from the university and an opportunity to visit the University of Georgia and meet with the heads of their preferred academic programs.
The University of Georgia continues to actively support initiatives that promote civic engagement, student journalism, and the development of young people’s journalistic skills.
