Nino Lomjaria is a prominent human rights defender and lawyer, who has an extensive experience of working in public sector and local/international NGOs in the area of human rights, rule of law, elections and anti corruption issues. In 2017-2022 she served as a Public Defender (Ombudsman) of Georgia and in 2016-2017 worked as a First Deputy Auditor General of Georgia. In 2008-2015 years, Ms. Lomjaria held managing positions in leading Georgian human rights NGOs (GYLA, ISFED). In 2015-2016 she held the position of Secretary-General of international election observer organization – European Network of Election Observer Organizations (ENEMO). Her public work has also received international recognitions: In its resolutions the European Parliament highlighted positive role of Nino Lomjaria“in protecting human rights, promoting good governance, strengthening the rule of law, safeguarding media freedom and overseeing the compliance of policies and actions of the executive with international human rights standards;” U.S. Department of State has awarded Ms. Lomjaria and her Team with 2022 Global Human Rights Defender’s Award and In 2023 President of France, Emmanuel Macron has granted her the National Order of Merit of France for contribution in building Georgian Democracy; In Georgia Ms. Lomjaria has been awarded with the title of the Human Rights Activist of 2014 by Georgian universities and in 2019 she was named as the Woman Leader of the Year in Government at the Annual Conference on Women's Role in Economic Growth and Development of Reforms. Ms. Lomjaria holds LLM degree in US Law from Washington University in St. Louis (2011) and Master of Law Degree from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (2006). Ms. Lomjaria delivered lectured in Georgian Universities on Democracy and Elections and is an author of up to 20 reports on election monitoring, access to information, freedom of media and anti-corruption thematic.
