Associate Professor Lela Shengelia of the University of Georgia will undertake an academic visit to The University of Texas at Austin as part of the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program
Lela Shengelia, MD, MPH, PhD, Associate Professor at the School of Health Sciences of the University of Georgia, has been selected for the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program and will undertake a six-month academic visit to The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin), United States.
As part of the Fulbright Program, her activities will be associated with the Health & Society Program and will include academic and research collaboration in the fields of public health and health economics, participation in the educational process, delivering guest lectures, and working with students.
One of the key areas of the visit will be gaining insight into U.S. experience in modern teaching methods, curriculum development, and the integration of research and teaching. Particular attention will be given to approaches to engaging students in research activities, innovative teaching methods, and experience in the development of academic programs.
The program will also involve strengthening research collaboration with UT Austin academic staff, expanding professional and academic networks, and exploring opportunities for the development of future joint research initiatives.
An important objective of the Fulbright visit is to share and apply the knowledge and experience gained at the University of Georgia. Following completion of the program, Lela Shengelia will continue her academic and research activities at the University and will apply the experience gained to further strengthen teaching methodology, curriculum development, student engagement in research, and international scientific collaboration.
The academic visit will begin on October 15, 2026, and continue through April 2027.
