Presentation of the books in the series – “The Torture of Shushanika” (parts: I1, I2, I3)

On April 24 at 5:00 PM, the Tamaz Beradze Institute of Kartvelology and the University of Georgia invite you to a presentation of new publications במסגרת the project “Georgian Original Hagiography”:

  • “The Martyrdom of Saint Queen Shushanik” (the text of the oldest recension prepared for publication and supplemented with a scholarly critical apparatus by N. Mrevlishvili, S. Guliashvili, and T. Jikurashvili) – I1;
  • “Later Recensions of the Martyrdom of Shushanik” (metaphrased texts by Catholicos Anton and Ioane Batonishvili, prepared for publication with research, a glossary, and indexes by N. Mrevlishvili, T. Jikurashvili, and R. Sturua) – I2;
  • “The Martyrdom of Shushanik” (Articles) – I3 (Part I);
  • “The Martyrdom of Shushanik” (Articles) – I3 (Part II) – critical scholarly articles on the Martyrdom of Shushanik.

These works present the results of textual, editorial, and scholarly research on the “Martyrdom of Shushanik” and will make a significant contribution to the development of Kartvelian studies.

Head of the editorial board: Manana Sanadze

Technical editor: Nino Suaridze

Working group and authors: Nana Mrevlishvili, Sopio Guliashvili, Tinatin Jikurashvili, Lali Vashaqmadze, Rati Sturua, Nino Chikhladze, Nana Burchuladze. The publications were also prepared with the participation of Tinatin Beruashvili, Mariam Alaverdashvili, Natia Jangulashvili, and Guga Tabatadze.

The presentation will include a discussion on the scholarly value of the works and contemporary approaches to the study of Georgian hagiographical heritage.
