On September 5, Georgian University hosted the CYCLE UP! – Urban Space and Interactive Design Workshop, moderated by Osamu Okamura, an architect, urbanist, lecturer, and Director of the Czech Centre Tbilisi, as well as the author of “City for Everyone: A Manual of Urbanism for Beginners”.
As part of the CYCLE UP! project, an interactive workshop was held, giving participants an opportunity to explore the urban environment, mobility in Tbilisi, public spaces, and environmental challenges from a new perspective. Working in small groups, participants identified local challenges and explored possible ways to create a more inclusive, sustainable, and people-centered urban environment.
The workshop consisted of three main parts:
Particular attention was paid to transportation and mobility challenges, the neglect of public spaces, environmental degradation, gentrification, the lack of affordable housing, vacant and outdated buildings, and the broader challenges of sustainable urban development.
The workshop provided participants with an opportunity not only to observe Tbilisi’s urban environment, but also to analyze and describe it and develop their own ideas for its improvement, which they presented at the end of the workshop.
The event was organized by the Czech Centre Tbilisi, in cooperation with local partners Caucasus Cycling Network and Tbilisi Bicycle Mayor. The CYCLE UP! project is co-funded by the European Union under the Creative Europe Programme.
