Engineering Hackathon for UG School Students

On August 1–2, with the support of the University of Georgia, an Engineering Hackathon was held at UG School to promote technical sciences and provide students with an opportunity to demonstrate their engineering skills.

Nineteen teams participated in the hackathon. As part of the challenges assigned to them, participants were tasked with solving the following engineering problems:

• Accessing water in hard-to-reach areas
• Scanning underground facilities
• Developing a random number generation device
• Generating electricity from the ionosphere
• Delivering cargo to hard-to-reach locations
• Detecting water leaks in the networks of old cities

The event gave students an opportunity to work on real-world engineering challenges, develop technically advanced problem-solving solutions, and gain practical experience that goes beyond the standard academic curriculum.

The jury evaluated the participating teams based on the following criteria:

• Innovation— how unique and original the project idea is
• Relevance— how well the project corresponds to the given topic
• Technical Complexity— the level of difficulty of the project and the extent to which advanced technologies are utilized
• Functionality— whether the project works effectively
• Practical Impact— the potential for the project to be applied in the real world
• Presentation — how effectively the project is presented

Based on the evaluation results, the teams taking second and third places were identified:

• 2nd Place: We Are Team Batters and We Are Masters, Prime Mechanics
• 3rd Place: The Nile, Aquastic, ARSENA

The University of Georgia continues to actively support the promotion of science and technology, which is also reflected in the diversity of the University's academic programs.

It is noteworthy that through initiatives of this kind, the University contributes to increasing the engagement of young people not only locally, but across the country, providing equal opportunities for youth from different regions of Georgia to participate in educational and technological projects.
