On May 9, a presentation of the Institute of Synthetic Biology and two laboratories—the Genetic Engineering Laboratory and the Synthetic Genes Laboratory—was held at the University of Georgia. The audience was addressed by the Rector of the University of Georgia, Konstantine Topuria, and the Director of the Institute of Synthetic Biology, Tsotne Javakhishvili.
Synthetic biology is a multidisciplinary field that combines bioinformatics and next-generation technologies. Its goal is to reprogram natural living systems for specific purposes and to create new biological systems. The scientific foundations of synthetic biology include genomic and metabolic engineering, genetic code modification, and the engineering of fundamental biological processes.
