On May 22–23, 2025, a two-day seminar and workshop titled “Contract Law Across Systems” was held through the joint organization of TOLES Legal English Centre Georgia, operating under the University of Georgia, and ELSA Tbilisi.
The seminar and workshop were led by Tsira Chorgoliani, a leading specialist in Legal English.
During the sessions, participants analyzed the fundamental differences between the Common Law and Civil Law systems, with a particular focus on contract law. Key topics included the elements of a contract and remedies for breach, helping participants better understand the principles of contract validity and breach in different legal contexts.
A distinctive value of the seminar was the active integration of Legal English in both teaching and legal analysis. Participants explored essential terminology and examined landmark precedents such as Balfour v Balfour, Merritt v Merritt, Carlill v Carbolic Smoke Ball Co, and Hadley v Baxendale, enabling a well-rounded synthesis of theoretical and practical knowledge.
