On October 6–8, 2026, Anton Vacharadze, a researcher at the University of Georgia, visited Northwestern University in Chicago as part of an academic trip. During his visit, he served as a visiting scholar and delivered two lectures to students of the Russian, Eurasian, and East European Studies Program (REEES): “The Establishment of Soviet Rule in Georgia Following the 1921 Occupation” and “Soviet History Through Film.” The lectures explored Georgia’s Soviet past, the struggle for national independence under a repressive regime, and the interpretation of Soviet history through cinema.
On October 8, Anton Vacharadze participated in a roundtable discussion titled “Armenia and Georgia – War-Time Nations in Transition,” organized by Northwestern University’s Center for Global Studies. The discussion focused on the contemporary situation in Georgia and Armenia.
The event was organized and moderated by Ian Kelly, Northwestern University’s Diplomat-in-Residence and former U.S. Ambassador to Georgia (2015–2018). The discussion also featured Anna Ohanyan, the Richard B. Finnegan Distinguished Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Stonehill College.
The visit highlighted opportunities for future academic collaboration and the organization of joint events.
